ABOUT ME

Hailing from a family of professors of music and piano technicians, Ashley started his musical education at the tender age of six studying cello under the tutorship of Heather Bills, herself an ex-pupil of the legendary Amaryllis Fleming and co-principal cellist of the renowned Hallé Orchestra. He switched instruments and later studied piano with Elizabeth Ellis (ARCM, FRCM. Dip Advanced Performance RCM). He has performed and taught extensively throughout the UK and further afield since 2004. In addition to his degree he also holds Licentiate diplomas in both Advanced Performance and Instrumental Teaching from Trinity College London.

Returning  to the area, Ashley now plays regularly at functions and events throughout the north west and north Wales, but is also willing to travel further afield.

As an experienced accompanist, Ashley has accompanied vocalists including Ben Smith (Only Men Aloud), Huw Ynyr (Bryn Terfel Scholarship 2012 winner), Sian Meinir (Welsh National Opera) and Sian Crisp (Rocketman) as well as instrumentalists for competitions, concerts, grade exams and studio recording sessions.

Ashley teaches piano and music theory privately, tutoring pupils in a laid-back and friendly style entirely tailored to their needs. Pupils may choose to study for ABRSM and Trinity Guildhall graded examinations or just for fun, and beginners or refreshers are welcome alike. Ashley is also familiar with current GCSE / A Level curricula and is able to provide one-to-one tuition in these areas.

Ashley also represents one half of the Telano Duo together with Rhianwen Pugh, a harp and piano duo who bring a fresh and dynamic approach to the classical and popular  repertoires.
